Hi,
Sometimes my wife looks at me funny and asks, “What the heck are you trying to do?” There are moments when it’s OK to hear that question. And there are moments when, well, I’d rather not hear that, if you know what I mean. It’s just embarrassing.
So to avoid embarrassment and make a little more money in the process, here you go . . .
Know exactly what you want your ad copy to accomplish. It could be to qualify prospects, make sales, generate leads, attract web traffic, etc.
We all want our prospects to buy. However, there is a process with all sales that must be recognized.
Sometimes a searcher will be in a buy mode. That’s where I try to spend my advertising money. But most of the time they’re in research mode. It’s important to recognize the keywords in your ad campaigns that represent buy mode – and those that represent research mode.
As a general rule, the more targeted the keyword, the more likely your prospect is in the “buy mode”.
For example, somebody searching under the term “laptop” is looking for information about laptops. They may not know much about the subject and as such, their search quest is for information.
So, if you run an ad, you want the ad to focus on offering information . . .
Looking for a Laptop?
Free report tells everything you need to know. Buy smart & save.
Of course, when the visitor comes to your site you require they provide their name and email address to receive the report. This way, you can follow up by sending additional information, special offers, information about laptop accessories and more.
Now if the person is in the “buy mood”, they will search using more specific terms like “best laptop prices” or “dell inspiron 8200”.
The first term, makes it pretty clear they’re in “buy mode” and what they want is the best price.
In the second term, the searcher has clearly already done research and has narrowed the search to a specific model.

The best deals on Dell laptops are found here. Free shipping.

By being clear about what you want your ad to do you can address the needs of the customer and increase your odds of generating sales – now and in the future.
Best wishes, John
